7 strategies to ease children through separation

As Ann Haffner, a child development specialist with Parents as Teachers National Center, told KSDK-TV last week, separation is a fact of life. Every day young children say goodbye to their favorite pet as they leave home in the morning, to a parent leaving for work or traveling on business, or to a friend as they leave child care. Children need time to prepare for long separations, though, and she suggests seven strategies for parents to help ease them through it.
