If you can do just one thing for your baby, introduce her to books…and 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 months is not too soon! You can make a simple book for your baby to look at, even while she’s on her tummy.
- Poster board or other stiff paper
- Photos or pictures
- Glue
Here’s what to do:
- Fold the stiff paper into thirds so the book forms a zigzag.
- Choose photos or pictures from magazines or coloring books. (Look for bright images with contrasting colors or simple black/white images.) Glue one picture to each section of the folded paper.
- Stand the book up on the floor. Place your baby on her tummy facing the book. Tap on the pictures to get her attention, then talk with her about the pictures.
Why?
“Receptive language” is the language your baby hears and understands. The more she’s surrounded by speaking and reading, the more she’s learning!
