Sticky Paper Collage

Between 24-36 months, your child is experimenting and exploring textures.  First, he is discovering what feels sticky. Second is the awareness that things will stick to sticky surfaces!

What you need:

  • Contact paper
  • Stickers, images
  • Scissors

What to do:

  1. Attach a strip of contact paper as long as your child is tall to a window, or place it on a table.  Put the sticky side out and make sure your child can reach it easily.
  2.  Show how one of the objects will stick to the paper. Observe your child as he approaches the sticky paper.
  3. Use open-ended questions and parallel talk. “How does that feel?” “What should we do with the pictures we found?” “Will it stick?” “It did stick!”
  4. Display the strip on the window for a day or so.

Some objects may disappear as your child puts them on and takes them off.
What other objects will you and your child find to add to your collage?
